Start by identifying which part of the portrait you would like to edit such as the nose eyes ears mouth etc. Then you must identify what you are trying to change. Portrait Editing Can be utilized on almost anything so don’t limit yourself to just a picture. Remember if it has a face and you edit it this is called portrait editing. The main purpose of portrait editing is often to change the mood of the person or to remove any thing that is not wanted and or necessary in the portrait. Often it is not recommended to change the facial expressions which can actually be done using an advanced software such as Photoshop. Changing facial expressions eliminates the true feelings of how the person was feeling on that particular day.

When editing portraits you should always save an original copy to your computer if you are editing a picture. That away you don’t have to worry about any mistakes you may have made. This same principle should be practiced with sculptures and paintings. With a sculpture you should always try to have a replica sculpture if possible and with a painting be sure to get a photo copy. Be sure to practice on your replicas before making any changes to your original copy. This can however be different with sculptures but shouldn’t be a great task with any other portrait.

After you are satisfied with your rough draft then you may go off your rough draft to begin editing your original copy. Begin by making small changes here and there. Taking baby steps is the key factor in portrait editing. Start small and work your way up. This is so you do not ruin your portrait entirely.

All in all portrait editing is fun. There are tons of things you can do such as add funny items to someones face like glasses or place a big nose on that person you never really liked that much. Whatever you can imagine you can easily do it with some practice and a little hard work. Just stick with it and in no time you will be great at editing portraits.
